Caring for your matcha tools

Now we know how to make matcha it’s important to care & clean for your tools, in particular your chawan (bamboo whisk). Before use start by soaking it in warm water for about 1 minute before each use. This helps soften the tines making it more supple for whisking and will prevent breakage. After using the whisk to prepare matcha, rinse it thoroughly with warm water to remove any matcha residue. Gently shake off excess water, but do not use soap, as it can damage the delicate bamboo and leave unwanted flavours. Allow the whisk to air dry by placing it on a matcha stand, which helps maintain its shape. Always avoid drying the whisk flat, as this can cause the tines to bend or warp. Proper care will ensure your matcha whisk remains in good condition for a longer period.
