Green Tea & Roasted Brown Rice? It must be Genmaicha!
This rich sencha green tea is carefully blended with roasted brown rice. This processing creates a fresh grassy flavour, the green sencha combines beautifully with the aroma of the rice. We love the toasty, moreish flavour. It is often referred to as ‘popcorn tea’ because some of the rice can pop during the roasting process resembling popcorn. It is indeed quite unique! We enjoy drinking Genmaicha in the morning as a nice wake up call.
Genmaicha is also known as “The People’s Tea” as it was a product of the resourcefulness of Japan’s poorer classes. Toasted rice was added to green tea brew in an attempt to turn it into more of a meal. The popped rice was an accidental addition when the rice was toasted a bit too much. The early spring and summer harvest’s produce the finest of Japan teas. Due to the origins of Genmaicha the later, more coarse harvests known in Japan as ‘Bancha’ green tea were traditionally used as the base.
Brewing…
We think the best way to brew loose leaf tea is with an Infuser Mug or an Infuser Teapot like our colourful eteaket teapots or Curated Japanese Tea Sets. Other handy tools include the Perfect Tea Measure Spoon and a Tea Timer.
