Description

A Remarkable Chinese Pu-Erh with a Story to Tell

Discover Black Elephant Beeng Cha Shu, a distinctive ripe Pu-Erh tea from China's Yunnan Province, inspired by the extraordinary journey of wild elephants through the region in 2021.

When a herd of wild Asian elephants travelled from Xishuangbanna towards Pu-Erh, their remarkable journey captured attention around the world. This unique Chinese tea pays tribute to that adventure and the landscapes of Yunnan, one of China's most celebrated tea-growing regions.

Crafted from dark brown tea leaves pressed into a traditional flat, round tea cake, Black Elephant Beeng Cha Shu combines the character of ripe Pu-Erh with a fascinating story of its origins.

What Does Black Elephant Pu-Erh Taste Like?

Expect a deep, dark infusion with a rich reddish-brown colour and the distinctive earthy character associated with ripe Pu-Erh tea.

Unlike traditional black tea, ripe Pu-Erh undergoes a special fermentation process that develops its characteristic depth and richness.

It's an intriguing choice for adventurous tea drinkers and anyone looking to explore the distinctive world of Chinese Pu-Erh.

What Is the Difference Between Shu & Sheng Pu-Erh?

Pu-Erh tea comes in two main styles, each with its own character and processing method.

Sheng Pu-Erh (Raw Pu-Erh) is traditionally processed and can develop more complex, mellow characteristics as it ages naturally. Younger Sheng teas often have a brighter, more lively flavour.

Shu Pu-Erh (Ripe Pu-Erh) undergoes an accelerated microbial fermentation process known as wet piling, creating a darker infusion and typically smoother, earthier flavour.

Black Elephant Beeng Cha is a Shu Pu-Erh, making it a great introduction to the rich, distinctive character of ripe Chinese Pu-Erh tea.

A Tea Worth Exploring

Pressed Pu-Erh tea offers a different experience from conventional loose leaf tea. Simply break off a small portion of the tea cake and brew, allowing the compacted leaves to open in the water.

The leaves can be infused multiple times, giving you the opportunity to explore how the flavour develops with each brew.

A distinctive Chinese tea with depth, character & a story as fascinating as the landscape that inspired it.
