For 15 years, we welcomed tea lovers from Edinburgh and around the world to our eteaket Tea Room on Frederick Street.
Although our Tea Room closed its doors in September 2023, thankfully Edinburgh’s love affair with afternoon tea is very much alive.
And you can still find eteaket tea being poured in some brilliant places across the city.

Where to enjoy afternoon tea with eteaket in Edinburgh
Mimi's Bakehouse
If cake is an important part of your afternoon tea calculations, and we think it probably should be, Mimi’s is a very good place to start.
This Edinburgh family business has been baking since 2010 and has become something of a local institution, particularly known for its cakes and award-winning scones.
Their afternoon tea brings together Mimi’s bakes, savouries and scones with a selection of eteaket teas, so naturally we approve.
Mimi’s has several locations around Edinburgh, with afternoon tea available at selected venues. We'd recommend checking their website for the latest menus, locations and booking information.
Best for: Brilliant baking, a relaxed atmosphere and a proper pot of tea.
Tigerlily
If your idea of afternoon tea involves somewhere rather glamorous to spend a couple of hours, Tigerlily on George Street is difficult to miss.
Part hotel, bar and restaurant, Tigerlily brings a rather more colourful, contemporary feel to the traditional afternoon tea.
Expect the tiered stand of savoury and sweet treats, plenty of tea and the option to make the occasion a little more celebratory.
Best for: Birthdays, celebrations and a stylish afternoon in Edinburgh’s New Town.
The Grand Cafe at The Scotsman Hotel
For a little Edinburgh history with your afternoon tea, head to 20 North Bridge.
The beautiful Grand Café sits inside the former headquarters of The Scotsman newspaper, once home to its Advertising & Notices Department and now a rather splendid place to sit down for tea.
Its location also makes it particularly handy if you’re exploring the Old Town, Royal Mile or arriving through Waverley Station.
Best for: A classic city-centre afternoon tea in impressive surroundings.
Why tea matters at afternoon tea
We may be slightly biased, but we’ve always thought the tea deserves just as much attention as the cake.
A good afternoon tea isn’t simply about what arrives on the tiered stand. The tea is part of the experience: what works with something sweet, what cuts through richer flavours, and what you actually want to keep drinking while you sit and chat.
That’s one reason we love working with cafés, hotels and restaurants that give the tea a bit of thought too.
