Description
A Remarkable Chinese Pu-Erh with a Story to Tell
Discover Green Elephant Beeng Cha Sheng, a distinctive raw Pu-Erh tea from China's Yunnan Province, inspired by the extraordinary journey of wild Asian elephants in 2021.
When a herd of elephants travelled from Xishuangbanna towards Kunming before eventually returning home, their remarkable adventure captured attention around the world. This special Chinese tea commemorates their journey through the landscapes of Yunnan, one of China's most celebrated tea-growing regions.
Made from mature, dark green tea leaves with delicate tips, Green Elephant Beeng Cha Sheng is pressed into a traditional flat, round tea cake, also known as a Beeng Cha or Bing Cha.
What Makes Green Elephant Pu-Erh Special?
Unlike its darker, fermented counterpart, Black Elephant Shu Pu-Erh, Green Elephant is a Sheng Pu-Erh, also known as raw Pu-Erh.
The tightly pressed leaves produce a distinctive, rich apricot-coloured infusion with a slightly cloudy appearance.
Raw Pu-Erh is known for its lively character when young and its ability to develop greater complexity as it ages, making it a fascinating tea for anyone interested in exploring traditional Chinese teas.
What Is the Difference Between Sheng & Shu Pu-Erh?
Pu-Erh tea comes in two main styles, each with its own processing method & flavour characteristics.
Sheng Pu-Erh (Raw Pu-Erh) is traditionally processed and can develop more mellow, complex flavours through natural ageing. Younger Sheng teas often have a brighter, more lively character.
Shu Pu-Erh (Ripe Pu-Erh) undergoes an accelerated microbial fermentation process known as wet piling, creating a darker infusion with typically smoother, earthier flavours.
Green Elephant Beeng Cha is a Sheng Pu-Erh, offering a different experience from the deep, earthy character of ripe Pu-Erh.
A Tea That Reveals More with Every Infusion
Pressed Pu-Erh offers a distinctive way to enjoy loose leaf tea. Gently break off a small portion of the tea cake, add hot water & allow the leaves to unfurl.
The same leaves can be infused multiple times, giving you the opportunity to explore how this traditional Chinese tea develops with each brew.
A fascinating raw Chinese Pu-Erh that brings together traditional tea craftsmanship & a remarkable story from the wild landscapes of Yunnan.
