Gyokuro Tea
Shade-Grown Gyokuro
Sweet & Delicate
Japanese Green Tea
Description
Japan's Precious Jade Dew Green Tea
Meet Gyokuro, one of Japan's most prized green teas & a firm favourite here at eteaket HQ. Known as Jade Dew, Gyokuro takes its name from its beautiful emerald-green leaves & delicate, pale green liquor.
What makes this Japanese green tea so special is the way it's grown. Before the early spring harvest, Gyokuro tea bushes are shaded for approximately three weeks, developing their distinctive sweetness, vibrant colour & smooth, refined flavour.
What Does Gyokuro Taste Like?
Expect a smooth, gently sweet green tea with a rich, delicate flavour & very little bitterness.
Unlike traditional Sencha, Gyokuro's shade-growing process increases amino acids in the leaves, helping create its distinctive sweetness & rounded character. The leaves are then steamed, rolled & dried using traditional Japanese green tea methods.
It's a beautifully refined tea that offers something quite different from more grassy or astringent green teas.
A Special Green Tea Worth Brewing Carefully
Water temperature makes a real difference to Gyokuro's delicate flavour.
We recommend brewing at a maximum of 80°C to avoid bringing out unwanted bitterness & preserve its natural sweetness.
Don't have a temperature-controlled kettle? Simply allow freshly boiled water to cool before pouring it over the leaves.
One of our absolute favourites at eteaket HQ, and once you've tasted it, you'll understand why.
