Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Tea

Also available in our 100% plastic-free leaf tea bags!

Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Tea – A strong Scottish take on tea.

Get your hands on our Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Black Tea while you can – Europe’s first barrel aged tea!

We’ve blended three black teas from Assam, Ceylon and Fujian and added a little natural bergamot flavour and a sprinkle of cornflowers. Then the magic bit. We’ve worked with the Tomatin Distillery in the heart of the Scottish Highlands to suspend our blend in their whisky barrels.

By letting the tea leaves age in this way, the leaves naturally pick up the complex smoky, fruity flavours of the whisky barrel without overwhelming the character of the tea leaves themselves.  Our Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Tea is very special indeed.

Plastic-free tea

We provide the highest quality ethically sourced teas from all over the world.  What could possibly be better than that you may ask…  Well, our teas are 100% plastic free.  From the bio-film we use to hold them, we also use biodegradable and compostable labels on our refills and sachets, so we have you covered to enjoy our tea responsibly.  Because really, to enjoy natures wonders, we all need to take care of it.

By switching to loose leaf tea you’re not only saving the planet from more packaging but you’re getting a great cup of tea.  If you’re new to loose leaf tea, fear not.  We have 100% plastic-free self-fill teabags with drawstrings for you to create your brew.

We think the best way to enjoy it is with an Infuser Mug or an Infuser Teapot like our colourful Eteaket teapots, (or the amazing cast iron Japanese Style teapots).  Other handy tools include the Perfect Tea Measure Spoon and a Tea Timer.

Best Drunk

Morning or Noon

We’re pretty proud of our Tomatin Barrel Aged Whisky Black Tea. We’ve previously done some work on tea and whisky pairings and like to push the boundaries of what you can do with tea while remaining true to this wonderful beverage. Step forward Tomatin Whisky Tea. No we’ve not gone mad. In fact whisky and tea are often drunk together in parts of Asia. The tea leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant are definitely one of the great wonders of the world. They are also a blank canvas as they have an amazing ability to absorb flavours and aromas over time.

Step forward the whisky barrel. And not just any barrel. One from the famous Tomatin Distillery in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland where they’ve been distilling whisky since 1897 using the naturally soft water of the Alt-na-Frith burn.

We’ve blended three black teas from Assam, Ceylon and Fujian and added a little natural bergamot flavour and a sprinkle of cornflowers. This is a superb blend in its own right but by barrel ageing it in Tomatin’s Whisky barrels it is elevated to fabulous. The blend picks up the complex smoky, fruity flavours without overwhelming the character of the tea leaves themselves.

We’ve been trying to create a whisky tea for years but we couldn’t get it quite right. It all came together when we introduced the tea leaves to the whisky barrel. We’re grateful to the Tomatin Distillery for being so up for experimenting with us.

It’s non alcoholic so you can drink to your heart’s content. If you’re in need of something stronger it makes a wicked tea cocktail. Check out the recipe tab below for some ideas.

This unusual tea appeals to non-whisky drinkers as well as whisky lovers. As most people are already familiar with the flavour of black tea, it’s a great introduction to the world of prized Scottish whisky. So pop the kettle on and raise a glass to Tomatin Whisky Barrel Aged Black Tea.

The caffeine levels of this tea are estimated by our Leaf Tea Experts.  The more teacups, the stronger the suggested caffeine level!

To Brew: Use 1 tsp per cup, add freshly boiled water and brew for 3-4 mins. Serve immediately or remove leaves. We like it served at ambient temperature in a crystal glass (without milk).

This tea is very good. I am normally not a fan of smoky flavors but this is done in a tasteful way. It is more of a smokey aroma with a well balanced flavor. It’s something different and good.
