Charlotte Cadzow – The Making Of…

The perfect brew has felt like a lifelong search. We’ve spent years tasting, testing, pouring, and sipping. Always chasing that harmonious moment where leaf, water, and vessel meet in balance. You know the feeling: when the pour flows just right, the aroma blooms softly, and everything slows for a breath or two.

But along the way, there have been frustrations.
The side-handled teapot that only suits the right-handed.
The spout that drips or splashes unevenly.
The materials, ceramic, metal, glass, each with their quirks and charms, yet somehow never quite perfect.

So, we decided to walk it back.
Back to the simplicity and intention of Cha Dao – the way of tea.
A leaf. Water. A bowl.
That quiet ritual we each create at home, our daily pause.

It was in that spirit we realised: the perfect set didn’t exist.
So, we commissioned one.

Crafted by hand in East Lothian by ceramic artist Charlotte, this new tea ware collection embodies everything we love about tea. Mindfulness, connection, and artistry. Charlotte’s pieces are tactile, timeless, and alive with character, inviting you to slow down and savour each moment…

About Charlotte Cadzow

Charlotte is a ceramic artist based in Scotland, crafting functional art to enrich everyday life. Her work has been shown in the V&A London and exhibited as far afield as Japan and New Zealand. Her ceramics blend nature, mythology and imagination. Working from her studio with wheel and kiln to create tactile, beautiful homeware and commissions.

Charlotte aims to make ceramics that are functional, decorative, and practical. All works are hand built /and or thrown on the wheel, working mostly with Stoneware clays, glazes, oxides, experimenting with textures and expressive brushwork. Her work within ceramics and painting reflect influences from the diverse themes of nature, the sea and ancient mythology, as well as ancient Japanese and Korean ceramics.

All of her works are hand built /and or thrown on the wheel, using a diverse range of clay glazes and glaze firings. Raku and stoneware firings produce vibrant copper lustres and rich oxide glazes.

The Tea Circle Bowl Set

Designed to facilitate a daily pause in three parts. Brew Bowl, Sip Bowl, and Base Plate.

Tea helped Erica learn that thriving is a daily decision, not a destination. We designed the Tea Circle Bowl Set to make that decision simple. Rooted in Scotland, it turns one cup into a small ceremony of presence. The open brew bowl invites you to watch the leaves as they gently open – scent first, then colour, then taste. The sip bowl rests naturally in both hands so your breath can slow to meet the moment. East Lothian sand in the clay brings the coastline into your palms, a reminder to lift your gaze to the horizon. The circular form reflects the Metal Element in the Chinese Five Elements: honour what is valuable, release what no longer serves, cultivate clarity and resilience. The bronzed-glaze base plate elevates your pause – and welcomes a seasonal token to mark where you are in time: a shell, a leaf, a stone.

Working with Charlotte was a new kind of journey. A peek into a world where artistry meets earth. Inspiration flowed through studio visits in East Lothian: raw clay, gentle hums of the wheel, vision turning into form. From those first ideas came prototypes: testing balance, flow, and feel. Each one a step closer to the essence of tea itself.

And then, the moment of truth: the kiln door opening. Heat, anticipation, and quiet awe as our vision emerged. The perfect set, shaped by hand: born of tea, sand, collaboration, and clay.

To brew:

Warm the bowls, brew in the spouted vessel, pour into the sip bowl, and complete the circle with a slow sip. The pale interior shows true tea colour; stoneware texture with local sand from Yellowcraigs Beach in East Lothian guides the hand. The circular board guides your flow.
