Tokyo Oedo Koh Incense captures the rich tradition of incense craft and the art of the perfumer weave with the fragrance of old Edo – the old name for Tokyo.

This series was crafted by master incense artisans in Tokyo to express the fragrant atmosphere and culture of old Tokyo. Moreover, these fragrances have been specifically blended for stories of the Edo Period. Each incense is coloured with traditional colours and the incense  holder in the set resembles the stone pavements.

A pack includes 60 sticks with tin holder presented in a ornately wrapped wooden box. Each Stick burns for 12 minutes,

Cherry Blossom

The somei-yoshino cherry tree, seen in groves throughout Japan today, was originally an ornamental garden variety raised in the village of Somei.  The captivating scent of Cherry Blossoms heralds spring’s arrival.

Peony Tree

The enchanting peony known as Hanamachi-botan enjoyed enormous popularity in Edo. The trees were often seen planted amongst the teahouses in the geisha quarter of the city and peony flowers are known as the, “queen of the flowers.”

Water Drop

Old Edo was home to around 600 public bathhouses where people comingled without regard for age, gender, or rank, the bathouse was an egalitarian space for Edo denizens to bathe.

How to use?

To immerse ourselves fully in the drinking experience we use Tokyo Oedo Koh incense in our tea ceremonies and during meditative practices. For a true taste of Japan pair with Gyokuro or Ceremonial Matcha.

To use light the tip of the incense and blow out the flame. When a wisp of smoke begins to flow, place the opposite end in the holder. Tune into the sensations of the fragrance.
