DESCRIPTION

‘Keep The Heid’ is a Scottish phrase meaning ‘stay calm’.  Or more accurately, keep your head and don’t lose it! We’re donating 10% of our retail sales of  Keep The Heid to the charity ‘Health In Mind’ to help them to promote positive mental health & wellbeing.

Keep the Heid is an exceptional blend of Assam & Darjeeling, sprinkled with heather & delicate meadowsweet.  The addition of the traditionally Scottish herbs, heather & meadowsweet, are very subtle in taste.  They add a special note to this brew which gives it a distinctive Scottish twist and unique flavour profile.  The rich, intriguing flavours of this blend really come alive in the softness of Scottish tap water.

In Collaboration with Scottish Water

We created this new Limited Edition blend in collaboration with Scottish Water.  We set out to create a tea (which happened to be during the UK lockdown) which could be a catalyst for a conversation to re-ignite the energy of Scotland by bringing us together.

Keep the Heid is the perfect blend for a much needed moment each day, to re-energise and rebalance with a determined strength.  Take part in our Instagram campaign with #cupofteawithme.  When you post a picture, tag a friend you’d like to have a cup of tea with either online or in person (when possible) and add the hashtag #cuppateawithme.  Re-connect with people and have a chat over ‘Keep The Heid’!

Assam, Darjeeling, Heather Flowers & Delicate Meadowsweet…

With more character than your typical Breakfast Tea, this blend has Scotland at its heart.  Heather sprinkles millions of acres of Scottish moorland, glens & hills in its glorious purple hues.  Hardy and fast-growing, this flower is symbolic of thriving despite a challenging outset!  Heather flowers have been traditionally brewed for centuries in an attempt to cleanse toxins from organs & to relieve inflammatory pains.  We cannot confirm any health benefits, but the heather certainly adds something exception to this blend.

Alongside it, is a sprinkle of meadowsweet – another traditionally Scottish herb, known to have been was held sacred by Celtic druids.  It is also reported to possibly have pain relieving properties –although we can’t guarantee this tea will have health benefits.

Scottish Tap Water & Tea

As soft Scottish tap water has less calcium and a lower mineral content, it makes for a more refined cup of tea and allows you to taste the delicate nuances in the leaves.  Another bonus is that aromatics tend to dissolve more easily in soft water, largely because there’s less lime scale in the water.  This allows the delicate Darjeeling notes to shine through without being overpowered by the deeper Assam taste.  The complexity is layered with the subtle, floral heather flavour balancing beautifully with the sweet almond taste of the meadowsweet.

If you don’t happen to live in Scotland, it would be worth considering a simple water filter to remove some of the hardness from your water.  Also, remember to use freshly drawn water (so you retain the oxygen in the water) and brew your tea at the recommended temperature.  Black teas and herbal infusions, for example, should be brewed with boiling water to release all of the flavour compounds.

HOW WE LIKE IT
To Brew: Pop the kettle on and boil some freshly drawn Scottish Water (or if you don’t happen to live in Scotland, it would be worth considering a simple water filter to remove some of the hardness from your water before boiling). Use 1 teaspoon of tea per mug. When the kettle has boiled, pour this immediately to infuse your tea in 100℃. Let this brew for 3 minutes and then remove the leaves. Finally, enjoy this tea black, or with a splash of milk if you prefer.

Tea in mind tea routine: Whilst your tea is brewing, try a box breathing exercise. This helps to bring a sense of calm and balance back in times of feeling overwhelmed as well as reduce anxiety and stress. Simply imagine four sides of a box. Through a series of deep breathing, you will imagine each stage travelling the length of one side. You progress with your breathing clockwise around these four sides of the box.
To start: Sit up straight to allow for deep breathing. Inhale slowly through your nose for the count of 4 seconds. Feel the air fill your lungs fully. Hold this breath for a further 4 seconds. Then slowly exhale slowly through your mouth for 4 seconds, feeling your lungs empty. Hold your breath again for a slow count of 4 before repeating this process. Repeat this cycle 4 times.
