Tall Ships Aberdeen 2025 19th – 22nd July….

We were delighted to be invited to create a bespoke tea blend for Tall Ships Aberdeen. From 19 to 22 July 2025, Aberdeen’s harbour is set to be transformed into a vibrant hub of activity as 50 tall ships from around the world sail into the city.

The event which will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors and feature a wide range of free, family-friendly entertainment, including live music, crew parades, a funfair, STEM activities, and cultural celebrations.

This limited-edition tea is available exclusively for the Tall Ships Races 2025. The blend is a distinctive celebration of historic sea voyages, combining Jin Mu Dan tea from the Wuyi region of China, an area whose teas once sailed aboard the great clippers, with a 2024 BOP Scottish Black Tea grown by Tea Scotland.

The Tall Ships Blend

In partnership with the Aberdeen Line 200 Committee, honouring 200 years since George Thompson Jnr started his shipping line, with its ships including the fastest clipper ship Thermopylae, built in Aberdeen. Uniquely available for the Tall Ships Races 2025, when over 50 sailing ships are visiting Aberdeen.

A distinctive union of historic sea voyages: Jin Mu Dan tea, from the historic area of Wuyi in China, which grew tea that was on board the clipper ships – now masterfully blended with Scottish Black tea sourced from Tea Scotland. Each tin celebrates the glorious era of sail and supports Sea Cadets – Aberdeen.

The tea pays tribute to the tea clipper races of the mid-1800s which saw fierce commercial contests in which ships like the Thermopylae raced from China to London to be first to deliver the new season’s tea. These ships, combining speed, grace, and ingenuity, helped to transform British tea culture and put Aberdeen on the global map.

The Tall Ships Races 2025 Blend will be served at several events hosted by AL200 and Sea Cadets – Aberdeen, including a fundraising dinner and at the Sea Cadet’s unit on Pixar Quay.  A limited number of tins will be available for purchase with sales helping to supporting Sea Cadets–Aberdeen.

The creation of the tea and its associated heritage work has been made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage fund’s support, awarded to help connect young people and the public with Aberdeen’s rich maritime past.

“This isn’t just a delicious tea – it’s a story in a tin,” said Tim Holmes, Chair of the AL200 Committee. “It links Aberdeen’s world-class shipbuilding history, its role in the tea trade, and the future generation of sailors coming through the Sea Cadets.”

Tea Scotland

We were delighted to work with Tea Scotland to blend this unique tea. Tea Scotland is the association of Scottish tea growers. They support the commercial cultivation of Camellia sinensis across Scotland, producing rare, delicious, small batch teas. Using a tea sourced from Tea Scotland the blend features a 2024 BOP Black Tea cultivated in gardens across Scotland and made at Glen Caladh Tea Farm.
