The Sleepy Mind Tea: Explore the Botanicals in This Calming Infusion

The Sleepy Mind tea is full of serene botanicals carefully crafted to promote calmness and relaxation let’s explore the ingredients used to create a calming and soothing mug….
The Sleepy Mind is created with green rooibos and honeybush blended with supporting earth element Fenugreek and bitter, fire element Roasted Dandelion Root along with calming Lavender, oat flowering tops and safflower in this cleansing and calming caffeine-free infusion.
Green Rooibos – A variant of the rooibos plant (Aspalathus linearis) that undergoes minimal oxidation compared to traditional rooibos. Unlike red rooibos, which is oxidised and takes on a reddish-brown colour, green rooibos leaves are processed immediately after harvesting to prevent oxidation, hence maintaining their natural green colour of the leaf.
The taste profile of green rooibos is often described as slightly sweeter, milder, and more herbaceous compared to red rooibos. It lacks the characteristic reddish hue and has a lighter, fresher taste with herbal and grassy notes. Green rooibos is also known for being caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants.
Honeybush – Derived from the shrub-like plant indigenous to South Africa, primarily found in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. It belongs to the Fabaceae family, which also includes plants like peas and beans. Honeybush tea is made from the dried flowers, leaves, and stems of various Cyclopia species. Similar to the tea plant honeybush contains antioxidants compounds like flavones, and flavonoids. Though more research is needed, honeybush tea is believed to offer several health benefits, including potential support for digestive health, improving skin conditions, and assisting in managing menopausal symptoms.
Fenugreek – Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is an herb native to the Mediterranean region, Western Asia, and Southern Europe. It’s commonly used as both an herb (the leaves) and a spice (the seeds) in various cuisines and traditional medicine practices.
In addition to its culinary uses, fenugreek seeds are also known for their potential health benefits. They contain various nutrients, including fibre, protein, vitamins (such as B vitamins), and minerals (such as iron and magnesium). Fenugreek seeds also contain compounds like saponins and flavonoids that are believed to have antioxidant properties.
Fenugreek is also used in traditional medicine practices for a range of purposes, such as promoting digestion, supporting lactation in breastfeeding mothers, managing blood sugar levels, and as a remedy for various ailments, though scientific evidence supporting all these claims is still under exploration
Roasted Dandelion Root – Roasted dandelion root is derived from the root of the common dandelion plant (Taraxacum officinale). It offers a rich and deep flavour profile, resembling the taste of coffee, making it an option for those looking for a coffee substitute. It can be consumed on its own or blended with other herbs for added flavour complexity.
Beyond its use as a coffee substitute, dandelion root has a history of use in traditional medicine for various purposes. It’s believed to support liver health, aid digestion, act as a diuretic, and possess antioxidant properties.
Lavender – Lavender (Lavandula) is a popular flowering plant known for its fragrant, aromatic flowers and distinctive appearance. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family, which also includes herbs like mint, sage, and rosemary. Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region but is cultivated and grown in various parts of the world for its ornamental, culinary, medicinal, and aromatic properties. Traditionally, lavender has been used for its potential medicinal properties, primarily for its calming and relaxing effects. It is often used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation, reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and alleviate headaches.
Oat Flowering Tops – Oat flowering tops, also known as Avena sativa, refer to the upper part of the oat plant where the seeds develop and the plant flowers. These parts of the oat plant are harvested just before the seeds fully develop and are used for various purposes, including herbal medicine and holistic health.
Oat flowering tops contain a range of compounds that are believed to offer potential health benefits. Such as avenanthramides; these are phenolic compounds found specifically in oats that may possess antioxidant properties and are associated with potential anti-inflammatory effects. Oats are also well-known for containing beta-glucans, a type of soluble fibre known for its ability to support heart health and potentially aid in managing cholesterol levels. Oats contain vitamins (such as B vitamins) and minerals (such as magnesium and iron) that contribute to overall health.
Safflower – Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is an annual flowering plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, commonly cultivated for its seeds, which yield safflower oil. Native to regions of the Middle East and parts of Asia, safflower is now grown in various countries across the world for its oil, culinary uses, and potential medicinal properties. Some research suggests that safflower oil might have potential health benefits, such as supporting heart health by reducing LDL cholesterol levels and improving blood sugar control. It’s also used in traditional medicine. Safflower tea, made from the petals, is sometimes used as a mild diuretic or to support menstrual health
