February: A Month of Love, Warmth & Heart-Led Rituals

February often arrives with mixed feelings. It’s the shortest month, the deepest part of winter, and socially soaked in ideas of romantic love. But beyond roses and grand gestures, this time of year offers a quieter invitation: to tend to the heart, to warmth, to connection. With others, and with yourself.

In traditional systems like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the heart is more than a physical organ. It is the home of Shen; spirit, joy, and emotional wellbeing. When the heart is nourished, we feel calm, open, and connected. When it’s depleted, we may feel restless, disconnected, or flat.

We’re exploring how tea rituals, especially those rooted in warmth and intention, can gently support heart energy.

Captivating joy in the gloom

While we await the arrival of spring – and it is coming! -it can help to mark the small daily shifts in light and warmth. The days are gradually lengthening, and we are only 3 weeks away from a 6pm sunset! Imagine each day as a chance to cultivate Shen energy, the subtle aliveness of the heart, in simple, practical ways.

Here are a few gentle ways to invite warmth, presence, and joy into your February days…

  • Tea as pause: Brew a cup of tea with intention. Notice the aroma as the leaves unfurl. Feel the warmth in your hands. Even two minutes of full attention to a cup can help the heart settle and invite joy.
  • Mindful movement: Try a short chest-opening stretch or yoga pose, such as a gentle bridge or cactus arms at the wall. Let your breath expand your ribcage and sense warmth in the heart space.
  • Sunlight moments: Even a brief walk outdoors or sitting by a window can be nourishing. Notice the light changing day by day, letting it remind you of seasonal renewal.
  • Journaling prompts: Ask yourself quietly, “What brings me warmth today?” or “Where can I invite small joy into my day?” Small reflections cultivate presence and steadiness in Shen energy.
  • Evening ritual: Before bed, brew a calming herbal blend or a lighter black tea. Take three slow breaths as you hold the cup, letting the day’s tension melt.

Notice and nurture what feels alive, soft, and open in your chest. Cultivating heart energy is not about achieving or fixing; it’s about presence, warmth, and gentle curiosity.

Heart Opener Thrive in 3 ritual…

Choose a tea you’re drawn to, our new Besos de Cacao is a perfect choice. Cacao has been treasured for centuries as a ceremonial plant. In ancient Mesoamerican traditions, it was considered sacred, used in rituals to invite vitality, presence, and connection. Drinking cacao was both nourishment and a way to celebrate life.

As your leaves steep reassure yourself for the next few moments, you don’t need to hold yourself together.
Let your attention settle into the body.

Bring awareness to the centre of your chest.
This is the space of Fire. Warmth, movement, joy.

As your leaves unfurl in the water, imagine a gentle warmth sitting in your chest.
A soft flicker of flame. A steady glow.

With each breath, allow that warmth to spread.
Softening tightness.

Melting the edges of tension.
Creating space where things may have felt closed or guarded.

There’s nothing to fix.
Nothing to reach for.

Take a sip of your tea, feel the heat moving through your chest.

Simply let the warmth do the work.
Rest here for a few moments,
supported, open, and at ease.
